Investigations
"I love that our school can go on nature trips like Arlington Echo, the farm, and Poplar Island. We also get to release our terrapins (known as Chester and Lily)! Green is best!"
- 1st grade student
The Green School teaches many of the skills, processes, and concepts necessary for science and social studies literacy through the year-long projects for each grade level. These projects address both natural and socio-cultural environments and help students understand the complex interrelationships and connections among individuals, communities, and society by allowing them to apply their science and social studies knowledge in real-world settings. Through these projects, students learn and apply fundamental science skills including:
- observing (using the senses to get information);
- communicating (talking, drawing, acting, writing);
- comparing (pairing, one-to-one correspondence);
- organizing (grouping, seriating, sequencing);
- relating (cause and effect, classification, correlating);
- inferring (classification, if/then reasoning, developing scientific laws); and
- applying (developing strategic plans, inventing).
